What times are the sessions?
Monday to Thursday: Registration at 8.30, Gateway assessments from 9.45am
Monday to Friday: Information and pre-booked appointments from 9.45am – 5pm
Wednesday – Thursday afternoon: additional hours Gateway assessments – tickets given out in the morning. Advice session from 1pm-4pm, when there are staff available
Tuesday and Wednesday: Telephone advice from 1pm – 3pm. Tel: 0844 499 1195
Wednesday evenings: Pre-booked solicitors appointments booked by CAB advisers at Gateway sessions from 5pm – 7pm
Friday mornings: Pre-booked solicitors appointments booked by CAB advisers at Gateway sessions from 10am - 12pm
Friday: Registration at 9.30am, additional hours Gateway assessments from 10am – 1pm
How does the ticket system work?
A limited number of tickets are given out at the beginning of each session.
How long are interviews?
The 10 minute Gateway assessments are to assess your situation. This may lead to an appointment or referral, or information being given.
Is the CAB the only place to access advice?
No, we run several outreach projects. Please click here(HSI)... for details of our projects.
What type of advice do you offer?
We advise on debt, welfare benefits, immigration, employment, housing, consumer issues, education and family issues.
Can I book an appointment without attending a Gateway assessment?
No, appointments can only be booked after a Gateway assessment.
What if I have young children and can’t wait for a Gateway assessment?
You can book an appointment at one of our Childrens’ Centres. Please click here( hsi)... for details of the Childrens’ Centres.
Why can’t I be seen immediately?
We are a charitable organisation relying on volunteers. The Gateway assessment is designed to enable us to help as many people as possible
If I have a simple query, do I need to queue for an assessment?
Simple queries can be dealt with by accessing Advice Guide, an online resource from Citizens Advice. Please click here to access Advice Guide, or come into the bureau to access the Assisted Information System.
Can I book an appointment over the telephone?
No. It’s a drop in-service. Appointments can only be made after a Gateway assessment.
