We want you to volunteer
Our volunteers learn many transferable skills and gain valuable experience. This enables many of our volunteers to secure paid employment.
You can apply for any of these roles (click on the role for further information):
- Administrator/Receptionist/Information assistant
- Research and campaigns
- IT support/administrator
- Finance administrator
- Gateway assessor/Generalist adviser
What do we expect from you?
You must be fully committed to the training programme and be enthusiastic and willing to learn.
No particular experience is needed, but you’ll find that your general knowledge and life experience will help you succeed.
You’ll should be literate, numerate and have basic IT skills. You’ll be confident, courteous and be able to communicate with people face-to-face and on the telephone.
You must maintain confidentiality and discretion, and approach all clients without prejudice or bias, but with patience and sensitivity.
If you want to be a gateway assessor or generalist adviser, we expect you volunteer two days a week for 12 to 18 months in order to achieve the certificate in competence for both roles.
For all the other volunteer roles, we expect you to attend one or two days a week for at least six months.

If your application shows that you are suitable to be a volunteer with us, we’ll ask you to take a written test to demonstrate your literacy, numeracy, basic IT and communication skills. We’ll also invite you to an interview.
If you are successful, we’ll give you full training about Citizens Advice and for your particular role as a volunteer.
